Monday, 23 January 2012 15:47

On Monday 23rd January Fellows held their eagerly anticipated auction of Vintage & Modern Wrist Watches.

The saleroom filled up quickly as bidders awaited their favourite lots to be called. Amongst the many highlights was Lot 197. The bi-metal manual wind Rolex chronograph wrist watch, with a cream dial design and gold dot hour markers, was a perfect choice for collectors of luxury timepieces and sold for £12,000.

Lot 198 – a 9ct gold manual wind Rolex Oyster Imperial Chronometre wrist watch also caught the eye of bidders. The light champagne dial and hourly applied gilt Arabic numerals made this a very attractive piece to own and sold for £1,600.

A selection of thee watches belonging to the late deep-sea diver Carl Spencer were also auctioned in Monday’s Sale. Two limited edition Doxa’s, featuring as lots 49 and 50, had a combined hammer price of £3,900. Lot 225 – a stainless steel  Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Sea-Dweller bracelet watch, circa 2002 also impressed bidders selling for £4,100.

Lot 254 – a base metal manual wind Stowa German observers watch, also went above and beyond its highest estimate, with an eventual hammer price of £3,700.

An 18ct gold lady’s Breguet Marine bracelet watch also caused a bidding war to emerge in the saleroom. Featured as lot 2 in the sale this stunning timepiece sold for a staggering £7,200.

The next Vintage & Modern Wrist Watches auction will take place on Monday 16th April.
