Condition Report

A 1940's silver mounted oak Freedom Casket for the City of Carlisle, the replica of the fifteenth century Common Chest of Carlisle opening to a presentation plaque and Honorary Freeman scroll named to Herbert Atkinson Esq., J.P,. Hallmarked Birmingham 1947 with the maker's mark H.S. Length measuring 9 1/4 inches (23.5 cm). 'Presented with the Honorary Freedom of the City by the Mayor Aldermen and Citizens of the City of Carlisle to Herbert Atkinson. Esq. J.P. A Member of the City Council for Twenty-Eight Years and Mayor in 1932-33, in Appreciation and Acknowledgment of his Distinguished Services to the Local Government of the City 2nd April, 1951. Purchasing information
    The casket appears very much as made with a superficial aged appearance. There are general scratches, marks and wear. A couple of pins and rivets missing. Original key present. Hallmarks clear and legible.
