Two 18th century porcelain figures. Possibly Bristol or Plymouth, circa 1770/5, in the manner of William Cookworthy, comprising a Blacksmith, standing beside a tree stump with anvil, grips and hammer, the latter raised in his right hand, the rococo scroll base edge in puce, incised '50' beneath the unglazed flat base, crude and small underglaze blue crossed sword mark imitating Meissen to rear, the second figure a woodsman or woodcutter with tricorn hat, holding an axe and long tree saw, on similar base, both 8.5", (22cm) high. Purchasing information-
1. Several small old losses - chip to hem of jacket, chip to corner of apron, small depletions to handles of grips. Item between grip is depleted. Top of tree stump looks retouched. Small flakes to a second hammer resting on base, hairline through side of base. Underglaze blue mark is blurred.
2. Old (firing?) crack where hand rest on top of saw. Two small losses to hat. Jacket has areas which look retouched but no major concerns show under UV light. Firing crack to one scroll of base. Old light hairline across underside.
Otherwise both relatively sound for age and show no major concerns under UV light.
