Gamekeeper's Historic Timekeeper is an Auction Success
On Monday 13th February Fellows held their first Pocket Watches & Accessories auction of the year.
Amongst the many highlights to feature in this sale was Lot 175 - fascinating as much for its history as for the watch itself. This piece was given as a gift to the Head Gamekeeper of Lowther Castle in Cumbria, Charles Robinson, by the German Emperor Wilhelm II in 1902. Lowther Castle was the seat of the Earl of Lonsdale, and it was the 5th Earl of Lonsdale, Hugh Cecil Lowther, who was hosting the German Emperor.
This captivating pocket watch had an auction estimate of £1,800 - £2,200, and sold for an impressive £6,000 with bidders eager to take home a piece of German history.
