We’re thrilled to announce that our Insurance Manager Geoff Whitefield has accepted the invitation to become Chairman of the Institute of Registered Valuers (IRV). He will take up the position in June when the current Chairman, Jonathan Lambert, steps down.

Geoff heads up Fellows' Insurance Department where he oversees all appraisals for pre- and post-loss insurance valuation, as well as authentication. He is a Fellow of both the National Association of Goldsmiths and the Institute, as well as having been twice elected to sit on the Forum, now merged to form the new IRV Committee.

He is also heavily involved with our specialist hands-on watch seminars; designed to help with the identification of most types of customised and counterfeit watches. These training days are becoming increasingly popular, especially amongst those required to provide valuations as part of their daily business, such as retailers and pawnbrokers.

On a day-to-day basis, Geoff works with many high net worth clients and specialist insurers as well as supporting our team with his knowledge of gems, jewellery, silver and watches. In this professional capacity, he regularly assists the police and has acted as an expert witness on a number of occasions.

Speaking of his new position as chairman, Geoff said: “I was privileged to be invited to take over the reins as Jonathan’s successor in the role of Chairman of the NAG’s IRV, but not I might add, without some trepidation – my predecessor is leaving some pretty hefty shoes to fill.”

Come June we will be extremely proud to say that the Chairman of the NAG’s IRV – the body that upholds and governs the standards of jewellery valuation in the UK – is part of our team. We wish him every success in this position.

Geoff would like to take the opportunity to express his thanks to the many colleagues, friends and fellow valuers who have personally expressed their congratulations to him.
