Description

Condition Report

A Georgian silver and gold, diamond-set shagreen etui. The dark shagreen tapered case with rose and table-cut diamond shell, floral, bow and giardinetti motifs and rose-cut diamond push-piece, the hinged lid opening to reveal pistol-grip folding knife, ivory aide memoire, scissors, pencil, and two personal grooming products. Length 10cms. With fitted D.S. Lavender retailer's case.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition good. Some surface scratches and very minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Possible alterations at the gold section of the lid.
  • The pencil appears a later replacement. Remaining components appear contemporary in age to the case.
  • Diamonds mostly well matched.
  • Two diamonds to the shell motifs appear tinted light brown.
  • The diamonds to the centre of the flower and the bud on each side appear tinted light yellow and brown, believed intentionally.
  • Cut and setting of diamonds prevents accurate weight, colour and clarity assessment.

  • Ivory show typical slight discolouration. One leaf with fine, small cracks to ends.
  • Steel components show typical rust and/or discolouration.
  • Few diamonds with surface reaching inclusions.
  • Diamonds with minor to moderate facet-edge abrasion. One diamond with chip at the girdle, appears contemporary to setting.
  • Piece electronically tests as approximately 11-12ct.
  • Weight of case 71.8gms. Total weight (excluding fitted retailers case) 113.6gms.
  • Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns.
