A late 19th century gold Assyrian revival hinged bangle
The case - which harnesses a hinged mechanism allowing pieces to be viewed more fully without being removed - was designed by the Earl of Dudley, a prolific collector of jewellery and gemstones in the 19th century. The Earl had developed a close relationship with the illustrious jewellers and silversmiths, Hancocks & Co who were so impressed by the case design that they patented it in 1871.
