Waterloo Medal at Fellows

This exceptional Waterloo medal is being auctioned at Fellows on the 30th July.

It is extremely significant to collectors due in part to it being the first campaign medal to be issued, and was given to 36,000 men over all ranks taking part at the battles of Ligny, Quatre-Bras and Waterloo in 1815. Not only this, but was also the first medal to be impressed mechanically with the recipient’s name, using a modified coin machine.

With the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo taking place on 15th June, Fellows is delighted to offer this Waterloo medal. This medal in particular belonged to Cornet The Hon. John Massy of the 1st Royal Dragoons, and is being offered with an estimate of £2,000-3,000 by Fellows in the auction taking place on the 30th July at 11am at their saleroom in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.
