Lot Description

A Victorian novelty silver cigarette box modelled as a wood panelled dog kennel, press release hinged roof and the front applied with a reverse carved intaglio depicting a Jack Russell. Hallmarked Thomas Johnson II, London 1882. Length measuring 3 ½ inches (9 cm), weight 7.3 ozt (227 grams).

The novelty cigarette box displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Some small dints visible, along with some minor small shallow dents. Heavy debris and discolouration to the inside. The join of the hinged lid at the apex does not quite sit flush. Heavier tarnishing also visible to the recesses. reverse carved intaglio appears in good condition. The hallmarks appear rubbed but legible.
