Lot Description

A mid Victorian gold foil-back topaz and split pearl cluster brooch, circa 1850. The oval-shape foil-back golden topaz, with split pearl and later cannetille surrounds. Length 2.4cms. Weight 6.6gms.

<li>Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.

<li> Later cannetille surround.<p>

<li> Discolouration and soft solder marks to reverse of brooch.<p>

<li> Replacement pin.<p>

<li> Split pearls with slight yellowish greyish lustre.<p>

<li> Some split pearls with damage to nacre.<p>

<li>Topaz medium very slight orangish yellow, fairly well saturated, with good clarity and typical inclusions.<p>

<li> Some slight discolouration to foil backing, seen through the stone, in keeping with age.<p>

<li>Stones in fair condition with some abrasion and minor nibbles to the girdle and facet edges.<p>
