A gold mounted and agate box, of rounded rectangular form, the gold edges engraved with a trailing border of floral and foliate scrolls, the hinge opening lid with repeated gold border detail enclosing an inset oval panel depicting a countryside scene with a courting couple seated at the foot of a tree. Incised to inner rim 585 and numbered 3097, with two further marks, one probably Austrian, the other indistinct. Length 3.5" (9 cm). In fitted case marked inside Wien (Vienna).

The gold mounts have been electronically tested and show a slight variance between 13.9 -14 karat.
