Full Lot Description

A pair of large Edwardian silver sugar casters, each of typical bellied form with girdle detail and raised on a spread circular foot, decorated all over with flowers, foliage and scrolls enclosing a central vacant cartouche, the pull-off cover similarly decorated and pierced. Hallmarked Carrington & Co (John Bodman Carrington), London 1905. Height to finial 21.5cm, weight 21.25ozt (661g).

  • Both displaying some general surface wear, marks, and scratches, commensurate with their age and use
  • With some general tarnishing, and a little blackening and residues of dried polish to some areas and crevices
  • Minor surface nicks and dints, including around edges
  • Some visible seams
  • Slight loss of detail or definition to some areas of the decoration
  • Both with slight knocks around foot rims
  • On one of the casters, the finial to the cover is at a slight lean; on this same example, there are some heavier marks and dints visible to the plain cartouche
  • Both lids are a good secure fit
  • Both casters with some heavier tarnishing/staining and residues inside bodies and covers
  • Full hallmarks to bodies and covers, all clearly legible with minor rubbing; hallmark punches on the bodies are blackened with residues
