Sir Winston Churchill, 1940 Club, 9ct gold medal (1959), half-length bust of Churchill facing, 1940 CLUB above, in exergue CHURCHILL MASTER MEMBER BEAVERBROOK PRESIDENT, rev. MINISTRY OF AIRCRAFT PRODUCTION above, “TO WHOM MUST THE PRAISE BE GIVEN?” 23RD MARCH 1941 above propeller in field, engraved WALTER HACKETT in tablet, oak sprig below, 57mm, 89.8g, in case of issue from Spink & Son, with a letter from Lord Beaverbrook to William Hackett. Extremely fine, extremely rare.
Walter William Hackett C.B.E., J.P., F.R.Ae.S (1874-1964); The letter from Lord Beaverbrook to Walter Hackett, dated 15th May 1959 reads, 'Dear Hackett, “To whom must the praise be given?”. Looking back on that stirring time at the M.A.P., I recall the immense task undertaken by you and I remember the days and nights of labour. So I will be glad if you will accept this token of my admiration and our companionship. Yours ever (Beaverbrook). P.S. Sir Winston approves of the medal and the distribution.' Beaverbrook was Minister for Aircraft Production from 1940 to 1941. There was an annual dinner and these medals were presented by Lord Beaverbrook at the 1959 dinner.
