Fellows Blue John creates a buzz of excitement at Antiques for Everyone

All

As we prepare for Day Two of the largest art, antiques and interiors fair in the UK we thought we’d share with you the successes of Day One.

Our presence at the Summer Antiques for Everyone Fair features the core of a unique sale of over 250 lots taking place this October in the historic Jewellery Quarter. The sale uniquely brings together the largest collection of Derbyshire Blue John, with a vast range of objects and values to suit all tastes and pockets from £30 to over £30,000.

The day began with huge queues of attendees waiting to get in to the event. Once doors opened at 11am excitement filled the halls of the NEC Birmingham with attendees being desperate to be the first to see the much anticipated collection of Blue John at the Fellows stand.

Next up on the Fellows agenda is a television interview with our Antiques specialist Mark Huddleston and BigCentreTV. Mark discussed how the use of this wonderfully coloured mineral became increasingly popular in namely the second half of the eighteenth century, where it was mined for its ornamental value; used to create various objects and for architectural purposes in decorative arrangements.

This material is found only at Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern at Castleton in Derbyshire, during the 18th and 19th century it was mined for its ornamental value, and with mining occurring on a very small scale in today, it is extremely rare and collectable.

As lunchtime approaches the hum of interest over the Blue John collection is fantastic. Many visitors have traveled long distances to attend the fair and they have lots of interesting questions for the Fellows team.

The fair attracts visitors from all over the world and is famous for its specialist ceramics, glass and strong interiors focus. It’s also a cornucopia of covetable furniture, art, carpets, sculptures, silverware, clocks, rare books, arms and armour and antiquarian maps. In fact, everything including the Victorian kitchen sink!

Whether you are looking for creative inspiration for your home, wish to add to your collection or to find that perfect piece to finish a room, a world of discovery awaits at the Antiques for Everyone Summer fair.
