So why are so many people buying pre-loved designer pieces? The perfect solution to the bills vs shopping conundrum is buying at auction.

In a similar way to the watch market, it’s all about the brand name and condition. The more prestigious the maker the better the retention of value, especially if the brand in question runs waiting lists for their top bags. It may be that pre-owned is the only way to buy some bags without having to fight your way onto an exclusive list and wait for months or more. Of course there is an understanding that pre-owned can never be new, but we like to pretend – in which case marks stains and scuffs will all reduce the amount buyers will pay.
