Once you have received your valuation, and if you are happy with it, our staff will help you to consign your item to the next appropriate auction listed above. We work about six weeks ahead of the auctions which allows us time to fully catalogue, photograph, and produce a condition report for your item as well as promote it nationally and internationally.

If you decide to consign your item to one of our auctions, you will sign a contract, and Fellows will take the item in for cataloguing. The seller’s contract provides details of your reserve price and seller’s commission. You will hear us refer to you as a “vendor” don’t worry, the words seller and vendor are used interchangeably.

Approximately two weeks before the auction you will receive an email notifying you of the lot numbers allocated to your items. We call this pre-sales advice

Reserves, where appropriate, are agreed ahead of the auction.

Seller’s Fees

Our seller’s commission charge is 12.5% (plus VAT) on items with a hammer price of over £3,001, or 15% (plus VAT) for items with a hammer price of £3,000 or under. As this is a percentage of the hammer price, it is in our interest for you to achieve as best price possible for your piece.

A marketing fee is charged at £10 (plus VAT). This helps us to produce our glossy catalogues, market the sale to our 80,000 strong database of eager bidders and social media platforms, as well as any other print-based media.

There is a loss/liability charge of 1.5% (plus VAT). This means that the item is insured for the mid-auction estimate while it is in our care.

These are only payable once the item is sold. If for any reason the piece goes unsold, there is a small fee of £5 (plus VAT) which covers basic administration. This fee is only applicable if you decide not to re-enter the item into the next relevant sale.

After the Auction

Payment for any sold items is made after fifteen working days of sale completion. The payment is made by cheque as standard but we do offer bank transfers as well.

Should your item have gone unsold, we will contact you after the auction to discuss either re-entering the item into the next appropriate sale or organise delivery back to you.
