Bidding Explained

Bidding Methods

We offer four different methods of bidding at Fellows:

  • In person at our Augusta House Saleroom
  • Leaving Absentee Bids via our website
  • Telephone Bidding on the day of the auction
  • Live Online Bidding (with our free bidding platform Fellows Live)

Live Online Bidding (with our free bidding platform Fellows Live)

Live online bidding is the perfect opportunity to get a good auction experience without being in the room. Fellows Live is our online bidding service, complete with live audio and video, so you can watch the auction as it happens from wherever you are. There are no online bidding fees when using Fellows Live, and the system enables you to see the source of opposing bids as they come in.

In Person

There is nothing quite as exciting as bidding in person at a live auction. We regularly welcome customers from the UK and abroad into our saleroom in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter. You will need to provide either your driving license or passport for identification, and we will give you a paddle number. Once the auction has started, take a seat and the auctioneer will announce the bidding increments for each lot.

If you wish to bid on an item, please raise your hand or paddle. If there is no one else bidding against you, the auctioneer will bring down the gavel on your winning bid.

Leaving Absentee Bids via our website

You can leave an absentee bid up to one hour before the sale start time, requesting Fellows to bid on your behalf up to the maximum amount you have stated. You can place an absentee bid by either logging into your online Fellows account or calling us on 0121 212 2131.

Telephone Bidding on the day of the auction

You can also bid by telephone, enabling you to talk directly to a member of our staff in the Saleroom. Your operator will relay the auctioneer’s bids back to you and, on your instruction, bid on your behalf. Please call 0121 212 2131 to arrange a telephone bid. You must arrange this by 4pm the day before the auction.
