A George III Irish silver swing handle cake

Condition Report

A George III Irish silver swing handle cake basket raised above a pierced oval foot with gadrooned rim, leading to the oval body with open work border, swag surround, decorative floral scroll rim and stylised oriental figure mounted handles, hallmarked Dublin 1777, possibly Ambrose Boxwell, length measures 15 inches (38cm), weight 40ozt (1267 grams).

Purchasing information
    The basket has general scratches and marks, some deeper scratches and pits to the main base of the bowl, there is some small areas of damage and repairs to the rim of the basket, these are mostly around the weaker areas, small tears etc, some have been repaired, there is a larger repair across the width of the moulded border, with a small reinforcement panel fitted to the back. There is also a heraldic engraving to the base of the bowl which is on an additional circular applied piece of silver, possibly to cover a previous engraving. The oval foot also has some small repairs, visible as areas of solder, and also like above,a small reinforcement piece being added to the back. To the inside of the join of the base, there is a large amount of visible solder. The hallmarks to the underside of the base are clear and legible, the mark of origin of the harp crowned is also visible to the handle. The handle is possibly a later addition to the piece.
