An open face pocket watch by J Harris & Sons with two other pocket watches.

Condition Report

An open face pocket watch by J Harris & Sons. Hallmarked Chester 1900. Signed key wind full plate fusee and chain movement with rachet tooth level escapement. White enamel dial with Roman numeral hour markers, subsidiary seconds dial to six. Silver case. 58mm. To come with two other open face pocket watches, one silver example and one stamped white metal example.

  • Movement is not currently functioning.
  • Balance appears to be in good condition with sufficient play. Upon close inspection there are a number of minor marks dotted around the whole movement area.
  • Dial shows medium wear with significant discolouration. There are many minor marks visible upon close inspection particularly around the rim of the dial between 2 and 8 o clock and several dotted marks around the subsidiary, however there are no scratches visible.
  • Hands show medium wear from general use including tarnishes and marks apparent on both hands. The hand of the subsidiary appears in good condition.
  • Glass is in good condition with light marks visible that may be removed by cleaning.
  • Case shows medium wear due to discolouration and scratches visible around the rim and the bezel in particular. Upon closer inspection several fine scratches become visible, although of a minor nature.
  • Case back shows medium wear with significant fine scratches all around the case back. There is one larger dent on the outer face of the case back and some large marks visible. On the inner face of the case back is significant marks and discolouration but some fine light scratches visible. The inner case back has may fine scratches and some slight discolouration. There is one large tarnish near the edge of it and 3 very significant scratches on the back. The two hinges are in good condition with minor marks visible.
  • Pendant bow has medium wear with significant discolouration visible and a few fine scratches visible upon close inspection.

  • Movement is not currently functioning
  • Balance is in a poor condition and needs attention. Upon close inspection there are a few scratches and tarnishes visible.
  • Dial shows light wear with marks visible under close inspection and some slight discolouration. The 4 o clock marker shows slight fading.
  • This lot only has one hand that is badly damaged with discolouration and folding.
  • Glass shows medium wear with many scratches visible on it. There is also a few marks visible upon close inspection.
  • Case shows several scratches around the bezel of the watch. Upon close inspection some scratches become more apparent.
  • Case back shows heavy wear with significant marks on the back. There appears to have been some attempt to clean it up in one area. There are several scratches visible to the naked eye on the outer case back. The inner face of the case back shows considerable discolouration and tarnishes. The inner case back itself shows several marks and a few light scratches visible to the naked eye. The hinges appear in relatively good condition with a few minor marks visible.
  • The pendant bow shows heavy wear with many small scratches and dents visible upon close inspection.

  • Movement is not currently functioning.
  • There is rust in the movement that has caused everything to seize up, this lot will need attention.
  • Dial is in relatively good condition with just a few minor tarnishes visible under close inspection.
  • Hands appear in good condition with a few minor marks visible under close inspection.
  • Glass shows light wear with several small scratches visible under close inspection.
  • Case shows medium wear with discolouration apparent and light, but several scratches visible to the naked eye. Upon close inspection several small dents become visible by 3 and 4 o clock.
  • Case back is in poor condition with significant marks visible. Most noticeable there is a large black mark towards the centre of the outer case back face. There is a few smaller marks near the bottom of the case back face that stand out. The inner face of the case back is in better condition with a few large scratches visible but otherwise in general good condition. The inner face shows a few light marks and small minor scratches. The hinges show medium wear with significant discolouration and a few minor scratches visible under close inspection.
