A George III silver salver with Military interest.

Condition Report

A George III silver salver with Military interest, the circular body of plain form, the raised edge with gadrooned border, standing on four conforming paw feet and inscription to the underside. Hallmarked John Edwards III, London 1808. Diameter measuring 14 inches (35.5 cm), weight 38.5 ozt (1198 grams). 'Bequeathed by Lieut. Col. Michael Symes, to Commissioner Thomas Hamilton, as a Memorial of his Friendship and Sincere Regard Jany. 1809.' The engraved dedication is believed to refer to Michael Symes FRS (1761-1809), an Irish soldier, diplomat and politician and Thomas Hamilton, 9th Earl of Haddington KT PC FRS (21 June 1780 - 1 December 1858), known as Lord Binning from 1794 to 1828, and was a British Conservative politician and statesman.
