Lot 6

A George III silver wine funnel.

Description

Condition Report

A George III silver wine funnel, of typical form with removable funnel, engraved family crest to one side with the words 'Vraye Foy' (True Faith) above and monogrammed below. Hallmarked John Emes, London 1802. Maximum length measures 4 7/8 inches (12.5 cm), weight 2.85 ozt (88.6 grams). The crest and motto are believed to be those of BOSWELL of Auchinleck, Ayrshire. The initials and assay date suggest that it was the property of Alexander Boswell, who was born in 1775 and created a baronet in 1821. Sir Alexander was the son of James Boswell (1740-1795), who was friend and biographer of the English literary figure Dr. Samuel Johnson.

Please note: When placing absentee bids, your bids will be rounded up to the nearest bid increment. For more information click the 'Important Notices for Purchasers' button above.
