Condition Report

A late Victorian gold gem-set fly bar brooch, circa 1900. The fly with oval opal cabochon body, ruby eyes and split pearl head and wings, atop a knife-edge bar. Length 3.8cms. Weight 2.5gms.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition good to fair. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Bar shows slight dents.
  • Split pearls well matched, with creamy grey hue.
  • Opal with fair play of colour, predominantly green and orange hues.
  • Opal with small chip to edge of the cabochon.
  • Rubies are a well matched slightly pinkish red hue.
  • Approximate length of fly 1.6cms.
