Condition Report

A mid Victorian gold, garnet and diamond brooch, circa 1860. The vari-shape purple garnet and rose-cut diamond floral cluster, within textured foliate and cannetille stylised knot surrounds, suspending a similarly-designed drop and snake-link swags. Damage to surmount. Length 6.4cms. Weight 9.4gms. With case.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition fair. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Cracks and repairs to the surmount
  • One section of leaf has lifted, soft solder and discolouration visible.
  • More noticeable dents to the knot motif.
  • Drop fittings presumed replacements, discolouration, possible soft solder.
  • Drop with small loop for possible further drops, deficient.
  • Diamonds are replacement gems
  • Diamonds fairly well matched.
  • Cut, size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate weight, colour and clarity assessment.

  • Diamonds appear a steely grey hue, varied inclusions.
  • Garnets are in closed back settings, presumed foil back. Garnets appear a medium deep purplish red hue, varied inclusions, some surface reaching.

  • Stones in good condition with minor abrasions.
