Condition Report
A George II silver swing-handled fruit basket by John Jacob, the oval body with armorial to the base and with wide everted rim, pierced with quatrefoils interspaced with scrolls, further applied shell and scroll rim, quartered by further asymmetrical shell embellishments, two crested and two rising to the intertwined mythical dolphin mounted swing handle also crested. Hallmarked John Jacob, London 1744. Maximum length measuring 14 1/4 inches (36 cm), weight 63.6 ozt (1979 grams). The armorial appears to be for HANKEY impaling BARNARD and probably for Alderman Sir Thomas Hankey who married (1733) Sarah, the eldest daughter of Sir John Barnard, an MP for the City of London in six successive parliaments.
