Condition Report

A mid Victorian enamel and gem-set memorial brooch. The replacement oval blue chalcedony cabochon, within a split pearl surround, to the black enamel and scrolling foliate border. Personal engraving dated 1855. Length 5cms.

  • Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Two split pearls deficient.
  • Base metal replacement fittings.
  • Chalcedony is a replacement, with white metal collet.
  • Split pearls fairly well matched.
  • Chalcedony is a medium blue hue, well saturated, with clarity and typical inclusions.

  • Stones in good condition with minor abrasions.

  • Personal insciption reads: Presented by G.F. & M.G., to F.G.G., in memory of her dear Father, who died Feb'y5th 1855, Aged 54.'
