Condition Report

A mid Victorian gold foil-back topaz and split pearl cluster brooch, circa 1850. The oval-shape foil-back golden topaz, with split pearl and later cannetille surrounds. Length 2.4cms. Weight 6.6gms.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Later cannetille surround.

  • Discolouration and soft solder marks to reverse of brooch.

  • Replacement pin.

  • Split pearls with slight yellowish greyish lustre.

  • Some split pearls with damage to nacre.

  • Topaz medium very slight orangish yellow, fairly well saturated, with good clarity and typical inclusions.

  • Some slight discolouration to foil backing, seen through the stone, in keeping with age.

  • Stones in fair condition with some abrasion and minor nibbles to the girdle and facet edges.
