Lot 5

A George III silver pierced basket with swing handle & glass liner.

Description

Condition Report

A George III silver pierced basket, the open wirework body applied with insects and leafy garlands, with spiral twist swing handle, blue glass liner and raised on a spread footed base. Hallmarked London 1772, maker's mark a little distorted and appears overstruck, possibly C.M for Christopher Makemeid. Height measuring 4 1/2 inches (11.5 cm), silver weight 4.72 ozt (147 grams).

Please note: When placing absentee bids, your bids will be rounded up to the nearest bid increment. For more information click the 'Important Notices for Purchasers' button above.

Purchasing information
The basket appears in quite a tarnished state and would benefit from a clean and polish. General surface wear, marks and scratches. Also some dints and creases. There is a break in the metal of the rim. Further small holes and splits in the applied decoration. Some visible solder repairs. Hallmarks are a little rubbed but still legible and the maker's mark partly distorted. Heavy blue glass liner likely a replacement.
