An early 19th century gold enamel and gem-set brooch.

Condition Report

An early 19th century gold enamel and gem-set brooch. Of openwork design, the later added cushion-shape lapis lazuli panel and floral surround, to the enamel flower, ruby and opal scrolling foliate border. Clasp deficient. Length 5.2cms. Weight 16.4gms.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition fair. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Hook clasp is broken off.
  • Further fittings broken off to reverse.
  • There are clasp fittings for use as a clasp, tongue sections deficient.
  • Enamel flowerheads believed possible replacements.
  • Possible replacement gems.
  • Wear to mounts.
  • Lapis lazuli untested for natural colour origin.
  • Lapis lazuli is a slightly mottled medium dark blue hue with numerous flecks of pyrite.
  • Lapis lazuli with twin drillholes through the sides, not visible from the front.
  • Rubies are foil back and appear a moderately purplish red hue. Opals are a milky white with varied play of colour, one appearing more transluscent.
  • Stones mostly in good condition with minor abrasions. Opals with slight indents to the surface and moderate abrasion.
