Condition Report

CARLO GIULIANO - a late Victorian 18ct gold reverse-carved intaglio gem-set brooch. The circular rock crystal cabochon, carved and painted to depict a bumble bee, with alternating circular amethyst cabochon and split pearl surround. Maker's mark for Carlo Giuliano. Diameter 2.5cms. Weight 8.4gms.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Some patches of paint worn to intaglio.
  • Rock crystal in good condition with minor marks.
  • Amethysts are a well matched deep purple hue, with good clarity.

  • Amethysts in good condition with minor abrasions.

  • Split pearls are a creamy white colour, with rose and greenish overtones.
  • Split pearls in good condition, some with slight nacre damage.
  • Stamped C.G. to pin hinge.
