Condition Report

An early Georgian gold rock crystal, diamond and enamel mourning ring. The painted skull beneath rock crystal, with rose-cut diamond sides, to the textured band with black enamel panels reading 'Joan, Matthew, OB:23, JAN:1731, Æ:24'. Approximate ring size S. Weight 2.6gms.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Stones appear foil-back.
  • Diamonds fairly well matched.
  • Diamonds fairly bright.

  • Individual size and setting of rose-cut diamonds prevents accurate weight estimation and colour and clarity assessment.

  • One diamond with small chip to one side.
  • Rock crystal in good to fair condition with minor abrasions and scratches.

  • Rock crystal foil backing damaged to centre.
  • Enamel in fair condition with scratches, abrasions and nicks.
