Condition Report

A late Victorian gold diamond and ruby monogram brooch. Designed as an entwined rose-cut diamond 'N' and vari-shape ruby 'C'. Length 2.8cms. Weight 7.3gms.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition good to fair. Some surface scratches/wear and discolouration in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Some moderate discolouration to reverse.
  • Some replacement gems.
  • Glue visible to one ruby.
  • Replacement pin. Clasp slightly dented, requires minor attention.
  • Closed settings, presumed foil backs.
  • Diamonds well matched and bright.

  • Cut and setting of rose-cut diamonds prevents total carat weight, colour or clarity estimation.
  • Diamonds appear clean with few minor inclusions noticeable under 10x magnification.
  • One diamond shows abrasions.
  • Rubies vary, most appear purplish red hue, variation in tone, saturation.
  • Rubies in good condition with minor nicks.
