‘The Great War: Coventry’s Story’ remembers the outbreak of the First World War and the experiences of residents in Coventry who were in the armed forces and on the home front. The Herbert have put together a comprehensive collection of objects, photographs and archive materials which explores the lives of active serviceman, and their personal experiences of combat and life in the trenches. The emotional exhibition focuses upon the loss of comrades, impact of war and evaluating how those left behind coped with rationing and food shortages.
The launch of the exhibition, which took place on Thursday 31st July, was extremely successful with the Lord Lieutenant providing an insightful and informative speech regarding the importance of his office and the British Empire Solider.
