Buying

On the first £100,000 of the Hammer Price (of any individual lot) the buyer will pay the hammer price and a premium of 25% (plus VAT) or 30% (inclusive of VAT). On the excess over £100,001 of the hammer price (of any individual lot), the buyer will pay the hammer price and a premium of 15% (plus VAT) or 18% (inclusive of VAT). You can pay securely online, by cheque, by bank transfer, in person or by telephone. Find out more about Payment and Shipping options. 

This could be an error with inputting the invoice number. Please be aware that the first two characters of your invoice are the letters SI (Sierra, Indigo), the rest are numbers.

If your business is VAT registered in the UK or EU, you might be able to get a refund on some types of VAT for your purchases.

We may be able to assist with this, depending on your purchase. However, please note the following:

1. Auctioneers' Discretion: Please note, that any assistance given is entirely at our discretion and is not an obligation of ours.

2. HMRC Authority: HMRC (His Majesty's Revenue and Customs) is the final authority on VAT refunds.

Conditions for Refunds

• Date: We can only process requests about purchases made within the last financial year.

• Location: Your business must be VAT registered in the UK or EU.

• Documentation: VAT refunds depend on you providing the necessary export/import paperwork.

• Buyer's Premium: According to HMRC, VAT on the buyer's premium must be paid regardless of where you live or where the goods are shipped. Therefore, we cannot refund VAT on the buyer's premium if the goods are sold under standard VAT rules.

Keep this in mind when considering purchases to understand your potential VAT obligations.

Refunds will not be given for “buyer's remorse”. This does not affect your statutory rights. Goods purchased through public auction are exempt from the Right to Cancel, as per The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. If, when you have received it, there is an issue with the item you have purchased please get in touch with us. 

When you place a bid on an item, the hammer price does not include Buyer's Premium.

Unfortunately, due to the high volume of lots that are entered into our pawnbroker auctions, we do not photograph them. If there are any lot numbers you would like further information on, please feel free to send an email to info@fellows.co.uk, including the lot number, and we will have the relevant information emailed over to you.

Items in our auctions are sold via the auction process. Sales cannot be made beforehand unless otherwise stated.

Well done on your winning bids. You will be emailed an invoice at the end of the sale. If this is an auction held over multiple days, your invoice will be created once the final auction day comes to an end.

Make sure to set your interests in your My Fellows account. You can sign up for specific lot alerts, and we will notify you if we have any of these items coming up in our auctions

Requesting for identification is a main procedure with all registrants for our auctions, this helps us illuminate any non-genuine and fraudulent bidders and minimises any problems we may encounter after the auction has ended. Whilst we are in no way suggesting that this is the case with yourself, we do have a security procedure in place that we follow.

We offer a variety of bidding methods, from experiencing the auction in person, to live internet bidding, placing bids on our website, or telephone bidding.

When you submit a bid in a timed auction, you are indicating that this is the maximum amount you are willing to bid for that lot. Our bidding system will automatically place bids on your behalf until your maximum amount is reached.

You will receive an email notifying you whether you are currently the highest bidder or if you have been outbid.

On the catalogue and in your My Fellows account, you can see the status of each item you have bid on. More information is available on our buying page.

Unfortunately, once a bid has been placed it becomes legally binding and cannot be deleted.

Our approval process is mostly automated. However, we may require additional information from you. Please make sure you respond to any such requests in a timely fashion so that we can get you approved quickly.

Auctions are available to view in Birmingham and London by appointment. The viewing times are available on the online catalogue.

The live auctions are streamed on our main homepage on the day of the auction.

Our timed auctions are online only. There will be no video or audio but you can watch the online bidding on our website.

The catalogues are available on the website approximately a week before the auction. Make sure to set your interests in your My Fellows account to be alerted when the catalogues are uploaded.

We have a limited number of parking spaces available at our Birmingham Office, which you are welcome to use free of charge. Unfortunately, there is no free parking available at our London office but there are car parks nearby.

You can submit a valuation request online or visit us at one of our offices. Valuations for sale at auction are free with no obligation to consign.

Although we take into consideration the details from the insurance document, an insurance valuation is for like-for-like replacement value rather than the resale value of the item. As such, the value we would expect an item to achieve at auction is usually significantly lower than the value for insurance.

Our specialist will aim to get back in touch with you as quickly as possible. This will usually be within 5 working days.

If you are coming into our office, you will need to register for an account with us. You can sign up online or register on arrival at the office. We require a form of photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport. If you would like to book a valuation appointment, you can do so online or by calling us on 01212122131.

An appointment is not always necessary but we do advise it is best to make one.

Our standard seller's commission charge is 15% (plus VAT). A marketing fee is charged at £10 (plus VAT) per lot. There is also a loss/liability charge of 1.5% (plus VAT) per lot.

You will receive payment for any sold items by bank transfer after fifteen working days of auction completion.

After the auction, you will receive a post sale report via email. If your item is unsold, a member of our team will contact you to discuss your next options. You can track the status of your items in your My Fellows account.

For larger items please allow up to 6 working days after successful payment for dispatch. Smaller items will usually be sent within 3 working days following completion of payment. All UK deliveries are sent via a next-working-day service.

We offer an in-house service where most items in our auctions are eligible for free worldwide shipping, subject to our Terms & Conditions which can be found here.

You can collect your items for free from either of our offices. Please get in touch if you would like your items delivered free of charge to our London office.

We use Royal Mail as standard. For some invoices, including heavier items or overseas addresses, another courier or postal service may be used.

All of the parcels we send out are insured. Please speak to a member of the team if you have any questions.

Please let us know as soon as possible. We will log a claim with the service used to ship your items. Claims can take up to 3 months to process.

Larger or high-value items may incur additional fees; please consult our team before bidding.

We can facilitate the collection process if you use an external courier or shipping service.

We are normally unable to post items that contain glass. Please contact us for details of couriers that will package and deliver the items to you if needed. If you would like us to post items that contain glass, we require a damage disclaimer from you. Please get in touch to arrange this.

Customs charges may apply for buyers outside of the UK. Please refer to your government’s policies on importing goods from the United Kingdom.

When you pay there is an option to select priority postage for £20, if this is paid before 1pm we will send this out the same day for next day delivery.

Please feel free to email info@fellows.co.uk with your full tracking number, invoice number and address. We will then look into this for you.

If you would like to ship items to an alternative address, please use add the address via your My Fellows account. We would always suggest checking your address before paying for the invoice.

To protect against fraud, we may ask for you to verify your identity either in person at our offices or via your online account.

We ask for this to make sure that our bidders and vendors are who they say they are. This helps us prevent fraud and other illegal activities. To do this, we use third-party services to check your information.

When you register to bid or submit items for sale at auction, we use an automated process to verify your identity based on the information you have on your account. This information is sent to a trusted company specialising in identity verification. They check your details against public records and other sources to confirm your identity.

These checks help us:

• Understand who our customers are

• Ensure that information is accurate

• Comply with laws and regulations

If we cannot verify your identity, or if we find any suspicious activity, we might have to limit or suspend your access to our services.
