An A. Lange & Söhne Military Wrist WatchAs the principal supplier of military watches for the Germans during World War II A. Lange & Söhne produced watches for the German Luftwaffe. Known as the Beobachtungsuhr navigators watch or the ‘B-Uhr’ they followed specific design requirements suited for aircraft navigation. With an extra long strap to fit around the outside of the navigators’ leather jacket this large alloy watch has a diameter of 55mm. The large crown on the right side of the watch was made to this size so that the navigators could turn it whilst wearing gloves. Each of these ‘B-Uhr’ watches had hacking seconds for accurate synchronisation, they were all chronometer rated and they all had the same dials, mimicking the aircraft dials, demonstrating the intricacy of the detail Germany were prepared to go to win the war. |
