Patek Phillippe

A Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph 5980/1

Gerald Genta was the first watch designer to be celebrated in his own right and perhaps the most ground breaking of his designs was the "Royal Oak" for Audermars Piguet in 1972. This was a luxury steel sports watch, a world first, and was rivalled by the Nautilus for iconic sports watch status. A particularly interesting feature of the Nautilus is the dial which has a small gradient where the face changes from dark to light as you move to the centre- a feature which originally became popular with Patek Phillippe.

As early as 1969, Gerald Genta had established himself as a watch manufacturer and he created one-off designs for Cartier, Hermès and Fred, but it was his own watches which were the most radical and innovative. In this sale we are privileged to have four Gerald Genta watches, each showcasing his distinctive design touches and his playful, innovative approach to case and dial design.
