Loewe
Loewe (pronounced "lo-weh-vay") is a Spanish luxury brand, originally founded in the 19th century by leather artisans in Madrid. In 1872, German craftsman Enrique Loewe Roessberg joined and consolidated the workshops under his name, merging German precision with Spanish tradition.
By 1905, the brand had secured a Royal Warrant from the Spanish Royal Family, attracting an aristocratic clientele. Loewe continued to expand throughout Spain, becoming known for high-quality leather goods. In the mid-20th century, it evolved into a fashion house, with designers like Narciso RodrĂguez introducing women's ready-to-wear collections, increasing its global appeal.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Loewe expanded internationally, opening stores in London and Tokyo. In 1996, LVMH acquired the brand, boosting its visibility and financial stability.
A major turning point came in 2013 when Jonathan Anderson became Creative Director, reviving the brand with modern designs. Iconic items like the Puzzle Bag (2015) marked this era. Loewe has also strengthened its cultural presence through initiatives like the Loewe Craft Prize, highlighting excellence in craftsmanship.
Today, Loewe combines Spanish warmth with Parisian elegance, maintaining its influence as a leading name in luxury fashion under Anderson’s creative direction.
