Lot 13

Lot Description

George III silver mug, the slightly tapering body with scroll handle and engraved presentation inscription to the front, on footed base.   Hallmarked Newcastle 1803, maker probably Ann Robertson.  Height including handle measures 5 1/4 inches (13.5cm), weight 10.64 ozt (331 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The mug displays wear commensurate with the age and use with scratches, marks and tarnishing. There are small dints across the body of the piece, also some dents distorting the overall circular shape and causing a slight wobble. The hallmarks are very rubbed. The presentation engraving stylistically looks to be a later addition and reads 'Presented to Mr Samuel Catlow by Mrs Snowdon'. There is a original initial engraving to the handle 'F J C'.

Please note this lot has previously been incorrectly catalogued as a tankard. In addition to the previous condition report the silver to the engraved area is very thin, therefore probably a previous engraving has been removed.
