Lot Description

George III pair of Old English silver sauce ladles. Hallmarked Newcastle 1809, the maker probably David Darling. Length of each measuring 7 1/4 inches (18.5 cm), gross combined weight 2.7 ozt (84 grams).

The ladles display general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The ladles feel quite well rubbed and worn. Polishing lines visible. The hallmarks are noticeably rubbed in particular the lion passant, lion head and duty marks, date, castle maker's mark clearly legible. Shallow dint to one of the bowls and some distortion visible to the curve of the stems. The outline of the heel has completely rubbed to one example. No engravings visible to the terminals.
