Lot 312

Lot Description

A pair of Victorian silver novelty sugar nips, modelled as an Oriental character, his long arms forming the handles and terminating in hand grips.  Hallmarked Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings Shepherd, believed to be London 1880.  Maximum length measuring 7.5 cm, weight 24.3 grams.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The sugar nips display general wear commensurate with the age and use.  There are general surface marks and scratches and various nicks, cracks and pitting in the metal all over.  The hinge mechanism of the arms now appears to be fairly loose so that it does not grip tightly.  Halllmarks are clear and legible apart from the town mark, which is now obscured.
