Lot Description

Early twentieth century silver swing handle cake basket of oval form with embossed graduated beading dividing repeated pierced panels with wheat-ear swag border and further scalloped and beaded rim, the body raised above an pierced oval foot with rope twist rim. Hallmarked  Martin, Hall & Co (Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall) Sheffield 1911. The maximum length measuring 12 3/4 inches (32.5 cm), weight 24.6 ozt (766 grams).

The basket displays general scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use. Heavy tarnishing visible and the basket would benefit from a clean and polish. Further line/dints visible to the inner base of the basket from use. The hallmarks are clear and legible, the date letter slightly distorted, the swing handle marked with the maker's and standard mark.
