Lot Description

Late Victorian silver mounted oval hand mirror, elaborately embossed with grotesque masks and birds amongst scrolling foliage, with rope twist border to the bevelled glass, hallmarked London 1898, maker possibly Matthew John Jessop;  together with a later plain silver mounted circular hand mirror and a plain silver mounted clothes brush. (3).

All three items display general wear and surface marks and scratches.  The oval hand mirror has various small holes and dints to the embossed decoration and the central monogrammed cartouche is particularly dented.  The mirror has some deterioration and displays various dark marks.  Hallmarks are clear and legible although the maker's marks are partly distorted.  It also bears a registration number 26516.  The other hand mirror has numerous marks, scratches and dints to the silver mount and there is considerable deterioration to the glass.  The hallmarks are partly distorted.
