Lot 418

Lot Description

Edwardian silver cased scent bottle, the heart shape case ornately embossed with scrolling foliage surrounding a heart shape vacant cartouche to each side, opening to reveal a gilded interior and green glass scent bottle.  Hallmarked Henry Matthews Birmingham 1901.  Maximum height measures 8.5cm, silver weight 40.4 grams.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The silver case displays general wear and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use.  There are a small  number of minor holes in the embossed decoration and some small dints.  One of the cartouche was previously engraved but this has now worn away and is illegible.  The hinged lid is in working order although the clasp mechanism is not working efficiently as the lid is loose in position when closed.  Hallmarks to the inner rim are clear and legible as are the part hallmarks to the interior of the lid.  There are general minor surface marks and scratches to the green glass bottle and the stopper appears jammed with the liquid still inside.
