Lot 274

Lot Description

A late 19th Century French red boulle mantel clock

Anonymous, circa 1890-1900

Having a 3.5-inch cellular dial with blue Roman numerals and trefoil hands, the two-train movement, numbered 2688, outside countwheel-striking the half hours on a bell, the waisted balloon-form case with cast finial over cut brass decoration and glazed lenticle raised on scroll feet, with sun-cast pendulum, 12", (30.5cm) high

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Staining to some of the numerals. Small flake chip to IIII.

Movement appears clean and sound but is untested and is not guaranteed working. The back-cock suspension feather is missing a bar to hang the crook of the pendulum from, so the pendulum is currently loose - requires minor restoration.

Case - the front corner of the left side of the surmount is missing a 0.5-inch triangular section. There are a couple of lumps and bumps to the brass, but no creases or splits. The rear face of the surmount is undecorated (ebonised only). The tortoiseshell is in good order save for a small loss to the lower edge of one side of the apron. Overall decent condition.
