Lot Description

Ottoman Empire, banknotes (7), AH 1331 ¼-Livre (KM 81), 5-Piastres (2) (KM 79), AH 1332 5-Piastres (KM 87), 2½-Piastres (KM 86), Piastre (KM 85). Fine, all with faded ink handwriting mostly to reverses from Mr M Stevenson of Stratford Road, Shirley. He obtained them in Baghdad in 1918, the 5-Piastres with the following: “I am afraid I am guilty of trading for the enemy in redeeming this from a poor little Arab fellow who would never recover face value for it. Needless to say I did not pay face value.”(7).
