Eileen Hemsoll, (1924-2011)
"Family circle - striking a Chord"

An interior scene with figure at the piano, a child and spotted dog lying on the rug beside, coloured chalks (pastel), signed lower right, framed and glazed, 15.5" x 21.5", (39cm x 54.5cm)

Eileen Hemsoll was educated at Queen Mary’s in Walsall, and Birmingham College of Art. She exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1948 and was elected to the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) in 1972. As late as 2008 she held an exhibition at Number Nine Gallery. This painting was probably executed at her daughter's home in Alsace, France, of where she once said "When I visited...I took refuge in drawing the family and their large spotted dog".
