Lot Description

George A Chance, Birmingham; A good early 20th century Arts & Crafts chiming longcase clock. Having a 14" silvered Arabic dial engraved with makers name as above dated 1922, beneath subsidiary seconds dial, over three further subsidiary dials for month, day and date respectively (pointers lacking), within engraved floral spandrels, the arch with lunar calendar scale and rolling moon, the knopped four pillar movement, with false plate, chiming on four coiled gongs and striking on a fifth, housed in a high quality early 19th century-style inlaid mahogany case with swan neck pediment over quatrefoil frieze, stop-fluted Corinthian columns and boxwood strung hood door, the trunk with chequered geometric frieze over double arched long trunk door with central bat's wing lozenge between quadrant columns, the cut cornice panelled base between inlaid canted corners on bracket feet, 91.5" (232.5cm) high

Dial - slight tarnishing but generally good. Winding square between 8 and 9 is vacant, has never had anything behind it.

Movement - requires a clean and overhaul.

Case - hood has had finials. slight warping to trunk door. A few minor cracks to trunk. Bracket feet may be old replacements, should perhaps be ogee moulding above feet, seems to be an addition. Case of good quality and colour
