Lot Description

A late 19th century French ebonised and marquetry travelling clock with silk suspension. Japy Freres, retailed by Leroy a Paris. Having a 3.75-inch white-enamelled rectangular Roman dial with trefoil hands, signed 'LEROY A PARIS' below six o'clock, the two-train movement numbered 1683 and stamped LEROY A PARIS with Japy Freres Medaille d'Or exhibition stamp, outside countwheel-striking the half hours on a bell, the case with cast carrying handle to the marquetry-inlaid and glazed roof, over boxwood-strung front with sliding removable glazed door, between marquetry sides over conforming base, 8.25", (21cm) high.

Dial - flake loss to centre and another to lower left corner. Dial and movement loose in case.

Movement - silk replaced. Otherwise sound.

Case - generally cracked, chipped and scuffed, with some losses especially to roof. Damage to back. Back scuffed. Base scuffed around edges. Sliding glass cover not inlaid and may be associated.

Overall - project for full restoration.
