Lot Description

A mid 19th century gold garnet snake brooch. The coiled snake with pear-shape garnet textured head, suspending a pear-shape garnet drop. Length 3.1cms. Weight 4.6gms.

Overall condition good. There are scratches and areas of wear to the brooch in keeping with the age of the piece, there are some shallow dents and areas of split metal to the intertwined loop. Dimensions of smaller garnet 5.2 by 3.2mm, depth restricted. Dimensions of suspended garnet 6.9 by 4.8mm, depth restricted. The garnets are purplish mauve in tone with an even concentration of colour, there are easily visible scattered black inclsuions to the larger garnet. Some of the detail to the head of the snake is worn. The back pin is metal and has been replaced at a later date.
