Lot Description

An early 19th century inlaid mahogany cased eight day painted dial longcase clock, having a 12" break-arched Roman dial with subsidiary seconds, sheep recumbent beneath trees and terrestrial calendar crescent over inscription 'Mills Gloucester' within shell spandrels, the arch with lunar calendar scale over rolling moon painted with a sailing ship and with figures in a landscape, the knopped four pillar movement with WILSON false plate, the case with swan-neck pediment and brass ball and spine finial over inlaid Corinthian columns, boxwood strung and ogee arched long trunk door and conforming base with bracket feet, 91" (231cm) high

Hood - some lifting and split veneers. Case - has a split to the side panel of the base. The door to the truck is bowed. Plinth base possibly replaced painted dial faded. Moon dial inoperative. Hour hand broken. Mechanism not known if working.
