Lot Description

A Victorian wine ewer of plain baluster form, the body crested with the motto 'Spes Mea Christus', with an applied spiral of vine around the body leading to a naturalistic bark scrolling handle. Hallmarked Edward & John Barnard London 1866. Height measuring 14 inches (35.5 cm), weight 34.2 ozt (1063 grams).

The ewer displays general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing. There are further deeper scratches to the piece. The gilding to the interior of the piece has worn. The hallmark slightly rubbed but legible.
